Over the years the Foundation has developed two ongoing programs worthy of explanation.
The Landsberg-Zale Fund in Surgical Oncology
The Landsberg-Zale Fund in Surgical Oncology has funded research and education in surgical oncology at New York University Medical Center. This support evolved into the production of BSE (breast self-exam) cards (in English and Spanish) to remind and inform women of the importance of routine self-examination for evidence of possible breast cancer. Over the years the Foundation has funded the production and distribution of hundreds of thousands of cards for hospitals, medical schools, and various organizations around the country.
Edna Zale Family Assistance Fund
The Edna Zale Family Assistance Fund is the formalization and continuation of the personal efforts by Edna Zale to help individuals and families with medical crises, dental complexities, housing, transportation, and other emergency assistance needs. In her honor, the Directors established this special fund at Jewish Family Service in Dallas to assist the frail elderly, unemployed or underemployed, single parent, and chronically or acutely ill, among others. The fund is also available to assist immigrant families, many of whom face unexpected financial hardships or poor health as they struggle to learn a new language, or transfer their education and job skills to a different work culture.
